Item #UB-TS1: These little wire and plastic tubing gizmos attach to the brake pivot bolt and slightly touch the tire tread, cleaning off thorns, glass, rock chips and other debris before they can puncture your tire and tube; they work on smooth tread tires up to 35mm in width (not on knobby tires). As you ride, the tire picks up thorns, glass, rock chips and other debris. Typically the inner tube is not punctured until the offending debris contacts the ground in a further rotation. The tire saver is designed to knock off the debris before it contacts the ground a second time. PLEASE NOTE that tire savers were designed to attach to older style road brake calipers, which are held on the frame with an external nut. They can now be used with modern brake calipers that are held on the frame and fork with a recessed nut by using the Sheldon Fender Nut (our item number LS-5051OB). It is a special recessed nut that is designed to accept a 6mm (shaft diameter) x 12mm (length) bolt for attaching fenders (or tire savers) without having to loosen the brake caliper. The fender nut does not work on carbon fiber forks which are thicker and require a longer recessed sleeve nut to engage the brake pivot bolt. ( If you need the 6mm x 12mm mounting bolt, see our item number EF-BS612.)
